Week 15

Most of this week was spent sanding and prepping the many new surfaces of drywall.

Also, Felix got a new door, his old door was replaced with one that matches the rest of the bedroom doors. It's only primed here, eventually it will be painted as well.

We had to make final decisions on paint colors, a difficult process. We played around with color combinations on the Home Depot website, went to the store and picked up paint chips, then repeated that process several times because of course the colors look different online than on the chips, and different in the store than outside or in the house itself. To keep things organized, I made a vision board, which helped bring the whole picture into focus.

Trying out various shades of blue
Here are the colors we decided on for outside: New Day for the fascia (trim of the roof), Basin Blue for the underside of the patio cover, and Mammoth Mountain for the patio cover trim. The Basin Blue ceiling is inspired by the Southern tradition of painting porch/patio ceilings "haint blue" which is believed to ward against harm (e.g. bugs or bad spirits).

The underside of the patio was finished with beadboard, and then primed. I can't wait to see how it looks when it's all painted!

The tiler finshed installing the mosaic in the kids' bathroom. It's so exciting to see my design coming together. I had the rectangular mosaic installed vertically to give a sort of waterfall effect. It still needs grout and aluminum trim.
